The documentary film “The Birth of Korea”, which highlights Dr. Syngman Rhee, the founding president of the Republic of Korea, and the process of Korea’s founding, will be screened on March 30 (Saturday) and March 31 (Sunday) at the Takapuna Beachside Cinemas (Cinema #1) in Auckland. The event is organized under the leadership of the New Zealand Chapter of the Korea Freedom Federation, chaired by Maverick Son.
This marks the first-ever screening of “The Birth of Korea” in New Zealand, initiated by the Korea Freedom Federation’s New Zealand Chapter with the aim of spreading awareness about modern Korean history and contributing to the establishment of national identity. A representative stated, “This screening was arranged to correct distorted or forgotten aspects of Korea’s founding history and to provide an opportunity for both the Korean community and locals to better understand the truth behind the founding of the Republic of Korea.”
The film objectively examines historical facts surrounding the founding of the Republic of Korea, focusing on Dr. Syngman Rhee, and offers a fresh perspective on historical events that have often been distorted or overlooked in Korean society. The documentary is presented in Korean with English subtitles and has a runtime of approximately 100 minutes.
Screenings will take place three times daily at 10:00 a.m., 2:30 p.m., and 6:30 p.m. over the two days. Following the screenings, there will be interviews, and selected audience members will receive eco-bags through a lottery.
The New Zealand Chapter of the Korea Freedom Federation expressed hopes that “this screening will serve as an opportunity to widely disseminate the history and truth of Korea’s founding among both the Korean community and the local population” and asked for widespread interest and participation.
