The “75th Anniversary Memorial Ceremony for Fallen United Nations Soldiers of the Korean War”, hosted by the City of Busan and organized by the Busan Chapter of the Korea Freedom Federation, was solemnly held at 9 a.m. on June 25 at the United Nations Memorial Cemetery in Busan’s Nam-gu district. The ceremony was attended by more than 2,300 citizens, government officials, and students, who paid tribute to the sacrifice of the UN soldiers who gave their lives for freedom and peace.
Notably, this year’s memorial service was attended by Maverick Son, President of the New Zealand Chapter of the Korea Freedom Federation, along with its members, who represented New Zealand in honoring and remembering the sacrifices of New Zealand soldiers who fought during the Korean War. President Son stated, “New Zealand was among the nations that shed blood to safeguard Korea’s freedom and peace during the Korean War. Standing here today, we once again solemnly commemorate their noble sacrifice and reaffirm our commitment to ensuring that future generations uphold the values of liberal democracy.”
The ceremony included the national ritual, commemorative and condolence addresses, floral tributes, a moment of silence, and a choral performance of the Korean War memorial song. It concluded with an aerial tribute by the Air Force’s special flight team, the “Black Eagles”, who honored the fallen soldiers with a memorial flypast.
The New Zealand Chapter of the Korea Freedom Federation announced that it will continue to carry out initiatives that strengthen the shared values of freedom and peace between New Zealand and Korea while ensuring that the sacrifices of Korean War veterans are never forgotten.
