2023년 11월 30일 오후 6시, 웨스트레이크 여고 이벤트 센터 (Westlake Girl’s School)에서는 한국자유총연맹 뉴질랜드 지부 결성식이 110여 내빈의 축하와 함께 성황리에 거행되었다. 한국자유총연맹은 1954년 공산주의에 대항하기 위한 국제 연대의 필요로 아시아민족 반공연맹으로 출발한 자유민주주의 수호 및 자유통일을 추구하는 국민운동 단체이다. 현재 전 세계에 3백 2십만 회원이 대한민국의 자유민주주의를 위해 헌신하고 있다. 

한국자유총연맹 뉴질랜드 지부 초대 회장으로 선임된 손호현 (Maverick SON) 회장은 취임사에서, 정권의 향방에 영향을 받지 않는 자유민주주의 가치를 항구적으로 수호할 수 있는 단체의 필요성을 설명하며 한자총 뉴질랜드 지부 설립의 정당성을 피력하였다. 

각계각층의 내빈 참석하여 축하 

이번 결성식에는 제 21대 한국자유총연맹 강석호 총재가 직접 내방하여 더욱 뜻깊은 행사가 되었다. 아울러 김인택 오클랜드 총영사, 마츠이 신지 오클랜드 일본 총영사 부부, 윤광홍 호주 자유총연맹 신임회장, 박기태 민주평통 수석부회장이 축사로 결성식을 빛냈다. 또한 우준기 재향군인회장, 류광석 재뉴 대한체육회 회장, 정석현 재뉴 골프협회장, 류정권 옥타 부회장, 박형식 뉴질랜드 한국교육원장, KOTRA 임재걸 관장 외에도 오클랜드 한인회 홍승필 회장, 변경숙, 양희중 전 회장 및 웰린턴 한인회 김순숙 전 회장 등 각계각층에서 축하를 위해 참석한 내빈들로 더욱 의미있는 결성식이 되었다. 특히 한국전 참전용사와 그 가족들이 방문하여 자유민주주의 가치 수호의 절대성을 확인하였는데 세월이 흐름에 따라 생존 참전용사가 줄어들고 있어 감사와 더불어 아쉬움을 느끼게도 한 시간이었다. 

다채로운 공연으로 행사 장식

제 2부 공연에서는 해오름 사물놀이팀, 정시운 댄스아카데미, 무지개 시니어 합창단이 출현하여 한국의 멋을 느낄 수 있는 공연을 선보였다. 특히 75세 이상의 시니어로 구성된 무지개 합창단이 부른 ‘비목, 홀로아리랑’은, 인생의 깊이를 느낄 수 있는 목소리와 그윽한 선율로 참석자들에게 깊은 감동을 선물하였다.

 손호현 회장, 미래를 향한 비전 피력

신임회장인 손호현 회장은, ‘실질(Substance), 연계(Connection), 쳥년(Youth)’을 모토로 보다 실질적인 결과를 산출해내며, 거시적인 안목으로 교민사회의 다양성을 포용하여 교민사회 뿐만 아니라 뉴질랜드 사회에도 좋은 영향력을 미치고 아울러 대한민국의 자유통일에 일조를 하는 단체가 될 수 있도록 임원진과 최선을 다하겠다고 밝혔다.

On November 30, 2023, at 6 p.m., the founding ceremony of the Korea Freedom Federation New Zealand Chapter was held successfully at the Westlake Girls’ School Event Center, with over 110 distinguished guests in attendance.

The Korea Freedom Federation, established in 1954 as the Asian Anti-Communist League in response to the need for international solidarity against communism, is a civic organization dedicated to defending liberal democracy and pursuing South Korea’s peaceful reunification. Currently, it has 3.2 million members worldwide committed to the cause of Korea’s liberal democracy.

Maverick Son (Son Ho-hyun), inaugurated as the inaugural chairman of the New Zealand Chapter, emphasized in his inaugural address the necessity of an organization that can permanently uphold the values of liberal democracy independent of political regimes, thereby justifying the establishment of the New Zealand Chapter.

Distinguished guests from various sectors attended to celebrate the occasion. The event was further graced by the presence of Kang Seok-ho, the 21st president of the Korea Freedom Federation. Also delivering congratulatory speeches were Kim In-taek, Consul General of Auckland; Shinji Matsui and his wife, Consul General of Japan in Auckland; Yoon Kwang-hong, newly appointed chairman of the Australia Freedom Federation; Park Ki-tae, Senior Vice Chair of the Korean National Unification Advisory Council; as well as other notable figures including U Jun-ki, Chairman of the Veterans Association; Ryu Gwang-seok, President of the Korean Sports Association in New Zealand; Jung Seok-hyun, President of the New Zealand Golf Association; Ryu Jeong-gwon, Vice President of OKTA; Park Hyung-sik, Director of the New Zealand Korean Education Center; KOTRA’s Director Im Jae-geol; and leaders from the Korean communities in Auckland and Wellington.

Especially meaningful was the attendance of Korean War veterans and their families, reaffirming the absolute importance of defending liberal democracy. However, as time passes and surviving veterans become fewer, the event was also marked by both gratitude and a sense of loss.

The second part of the event featured a variety of traditional Korean performances by the Haerum Samulnori team, Jung Si-woon Dance Academy, and the Rainbow Senior Choir, which consists of members aged 75 and older. Their stirring renditions of “Bimok” and “Holo Arirang” moved attendees deeply with their profound voices and melodies.

Chairman Maverick Son shared his vision for the future, outlining the motto of “Substance, Connection, Youth.” He pledged to lead with practical results, embracing the diversity of the Korean community with a broad perspective, aiming to positively impact both the Korean community and wider New Zealand society while contributing to South Korea’s peaceful reunification.
