Dear Korean Community in New Zealand,
June is the Month of Patriots and Veterans, and June 6 marks Memorial Day in the Republic of Korea.
On June 6, 2026, the New Zealand Chapter of the Korea Freedom Federation successfully held the 71st Memorial Day Commemoration Ceremony, along with a ceremony marking the relocation of our chapter.
Despite their busy schedules, many distinguished guests and members of the Korean community honored us with their presence.
In particular, we would like to express our sincere appreciation to Vice Chairman Hee-Yoon Jung, who attended on behalf of Chairman Seung-Pil Hong; Hon. Melissa Lee, a six-term Member of Parliament from the National Party; Sung-Kyu Park, President of the Senior Citizens Association; Bang-Woo Byun, Senior Vice President of the National Unification Advisory Council New Zealand Chapter; Kyung-Sook Byun, President of UNPK NZ; Ae-Ryun Lee, President of the Korean Art Association of New Zealand; artist Young-Nam Jung (Wolam); Hee-Jung Yoon, President of the Korean Women’s Association; Jung-Hyang Cha, President of the Korean Culture and Arts Association; Gu-Han Jang, former President of the Senior Citizens Association; Woon-Dae Kim, CEO of Happy World; Young-Woo Jung, former President of the New Zealand Alumni Association of the Republic of Korea Naval Academy; Sung-Hoon Park, Building Management Committee Chair of the Korean Community Center and JP; as well as many other community leaders and members.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to everyone who attended.
Thanks to your support and participation, we were able to reflect on the significance of Memorial Day and mark a meaningful new beginning for our chapter.
During the event, artist Young-Nam Jung (Wolam) generously donated his artwork titled “Year of the Horse” to our chapter.
This piece conveys the message, “May you advance and grow with the strength and vigor of a galloping horse,” symbolizing encouragement for our chapter’s new journey forward.
The New Zealand Chapter of the Korea Freedom Federation will continue to uphold the values of liberal democracy, contribute to the development of the Korean community, support next-generation education, and promote community service and public safety culture as a reliable partner for the Korean community in New Zealand.
With our newly relocated chapter as a foundation, we will further strengthen our activities and collaboration with the community. We kindly ask for your continued interest and support.
