반갑습니다! 한국자유총연맹 뉴질랜드 지부 회장 손호현(Maverick Son)입니다.

1950년 7월 3일, 순양함 두 척의 출항을 시작으로 동쪽 끝 이름도 모르던 나라의 자유를 지키기 위해 6,000여 명의 뉴질랜드 청년들이 한국전쟁에 파병되었고 그들의 피 값 위에 대한민국은 현재의 눈부신 발전을 이루었습니다. 이러한 발전의 토대가 되어 준 뉴질랜드 전쟁 영웅들에게 깊은 감사를 드립니다.

한국자유총연맹은 수많은 사람들의 피로 지켜온 자유의 가치를 항구적으로 수호하기 위하여 출범되어 전 세계에 320만 명에 달하는 단체로 성장해 왔으며, 2023년에는 뉴질랜드에 지부가 설립되었습니다. ‘실질(Substance), 연계(Connection), 청년(Youth)’을 모토로 교민 사회와 뉴질랜드 사회의 실질적인 연계에 활동의 중점을 두고 있으며, 거시적으로는 뉴질랜드 사회에 선한 영향력을 미칠 뿐 아니라 대한민국의 자유 통일에 일조를 하기 위하여 최선을 다하고 있습니다. 향후 한국자유총연맹 뉴질랜드 지부는 뉴질랜드의 법과 규정을 준수하며 나아가 교육·문화·경제 교류 및 국제적 우정을 증진하는 민간 차원의 가교역할을 성실히 수행할 것입니다.

미국의 대통령 존 F. 케네디의 ‘국가가 그대를 위해 무엇을 해줄 것인가 바라기에 앞서, 그대가 국가를 위해 무엇을 할 수 있을까를 먼저 생각하라’는 외침은 제 가슴에 항상 큰 울림을 줍니다. 한국자유총연맹 뉴질랜드 지부 초대 회장으로서, 대한민국을 위해 무엇을 해야 할지 진솔한 마음으로 고민하며 겸허한 자세로 행동하겠습니다.

Greetings! I am Maverick Son, President of the Korea Freedom Federation New Zealand Branch.

On July 3, 1950, the departure of two cruisers marked the beginning of a mission in a land far to the east, whose name was unknown at the time, as 6,000 New Zealand youth were sent to fight in the Korean War to protect the freedom of the Republic of Korea. It is upon the sacrifices of these brave men that South Korea has achieved the remarkable development it enjoys today. We express our deep gratitude to the war heroes of New Zealand, whose sacrifices laid the foundation for this progress.

The Korea Freedom Federation was established to permanently safeguard the value of freedom, which has been protected by the blood of countless individuals. It has grown into an organisation of 3.2 million members worldwide, and in 2023, the New Zealand branch was established. With the motto of ‘Substance, Connection, Youth,’ we focus on fostering practical ties between the Korean community and New Zealand society. On a broader scale, we aim to positively influence New Zealand society and contribute to the peaceful reunification of Korea. The New Zealand branch of the Korea Freedom Federation will comply with New Zealand’s laws and regulations and faithfully serve as a bridge to promote education, cultural, and economic exchanges, as well as international friendships.

The words of President John F. Kennedy—“Ask not what your country can do for you—ask what you can do for your country”—always resonate deeply with me. As the first president of the Korea Freedom Federation New Zealand Branch, I will humbly and earnestly reflect on what I can do for the Republic of Korea and take action with a sincere heart.
